Last year Farice opened a new POP in the north of Iceland, in Akureyri, for one of it´s 3 submarine cables, FARICE-1. The idea here was to offer an international gateway to Europe/UK bypassing the southwest region with a direct path eastbound and out of Iceland. This year Farice is expanding this concept where all three (3) submarine cables are terminated in Akureyri in three diverse locations. With this setup Farice is in position to offer three completely diverse routes from the Akureyri area to Europe. The DANICE cable is also routed southbound bypassing the southwest region. This not only increases national resilience but also offers Data Center operators and builders the option to look at the Northeast region as a possible site, both for a new greenfield site in Iceland and as a complementary site to operations in the Southwest region.
