New telecommunication infrastructure company formed by merging the International Carrier Farice
with the Critical Communication operations of Neyðarlínan (112 Iceland)
Korda Networks will formally begin operations on September 1st 2026 as a
telecommunications infrastructure company. The company is formed through the merger of Farice ehf.
with the critical communication operations of Neyðarlínan ohf., a transaction announced in December
2025. Korda Networks will be wholly owned by the Icelandic state.
Korda Networks will operate Iceland’s submarine telecommunications cables FARICE-1, DANICE and
ÍRIS, connecting Iceland with Europe. Preparations are also under way for AUÐUR, a new submarine
cable between southern Iceland and Scotland, which is expected to enter service in 2030.
The company will continue to serve international carriers, data centre customers, telecommunications
providers and other organisations that rely on secure and reliable connectivity to and from Iceland. Korda
Networks will also provide critical communications services to customers in Iceland.
The merger brings together critical telecommunication and international carrier service, specialist
expertise and operational capabilities in one company. Its purpose is to strengthen service resilience,
operational security and long-term investment in Iceland’s international and domestic critical
telecommunications systems.
